Indicator: Vegetation Condition

Status

Available on Project Basis

Description

Measures photosynthetic activity and vigor of vegetation using the Normalized Difference Vegetation Index (NDVI). Values range from -1 to 1, with values >0.3 indicating vegetation, values >0.6 indicating dense healthy vegetation. Temporal trends can indicate degradation or loss of productivity.

Unit

Index (-1 to 1)

Temporal Resolution

Every 3-5 days

Spatial Resolution

10 meters

Data

Sentinel-2 L2A data (atmospherically corrected), using bands B4 (red wavelength) and B8 (near infrared wavelength)

Method

Calculates NDVI using Sentinel-2 data with cloud masking. Values are linearly interpolated to daily time-series, aggregated by median, and smoothed using a Savitzky-Golay filter. Standard deviation is calculated to characterize distribution. A negative 10m buffer is applied to large polygons to reduce adjacency effects
